Tessa Bailey does it again. Natalie, August, and Menace were the “dream team.” I’m convinced that cat was us readers the entire time; her judgment, and her planning to get them together was such a fun element to the story.
Natalie struggles to figure out where she fits, all while August struggles to navigate a dream that isn’t his entirely. The two of them come to find that the answers to their questions lie with the other.
I loved Natalie and wanted so badly for her family to finally see her value. I’m glad that eventually her mother and especially her brother finally wanted to include her in things. August knew her worth the first time he saw her and yet he too struggled to fully let her in. That part was one of my only issues with their relationship (although it too gets resolved thankfully), but he took so long to realize that he was asking her to be vulnerable while he wasn’t opening up about his grief and allowing her to help him make the wine. I did appreciate that it was so evident in their banter from the beginning that they never truly hated one another. The little things from the photo of Sam to August standing up for her at dinner with her mother were some of my favorite parts of the story. Ultimately the two of them realized that their marriage was far from anything fake, and I couldn’t help but smile at their last confessions.
