Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer was a pure joy to read both times. The mixture of childhood fairytale elements blended seamlessly with a young adult landscape made for the quickest and most enjoyable read. Evie Sage is what I picture every reader of this genre to be: quirky, badass, and utterly obsessed (questionably so) with the villains in the stories we indulge in. But who can blame us? The Villain is everything you wouldn’t expect (unless you’re a romantasy reader)- charming, quick witted, wants to protect his people, and most importantly rendered speechless by the FMC who is not scared of him in the slightest. I adored the other employees Tatiana, Becky, and Blade. The humor, the setting, the plot twists, fun side characters, and Kingsley (our beloved resident magical frog) make this a resounding 5 star read. I need this to be made into a movie - maybe even animated??
