A Glimpse into the Enchanting World of Magic
5 ✨
Spells, Strings, and Forgotten Things by Breanne Randall is an adult romantic fantasy. It centers around three witch sisters who suffer memory loss when they use their magic. The sisters are Thalia, Calliope, and Eurydice Petridi. Thalia is the oldest sister, known as the "fixer." She resists her magical abilities. Calliope, our main protagonist, is the middle sister. She is recklessly determined to understand her magic's depths. She will do anything to protect her sisters. Finally, Eurydice serves as the peacekeeper of the group.
The bond between these sisters is evident from the very first page. I loved discovering their unique differences and dynamics. The Petridi sisters are Lightcraft witches. They have been taught from a young age to distance themselves from the Shadowcrafters.
A Compelling Encounter with Shadowcrafters
Here enters Lucien Deniz, a Shadowcrafter. Calliope finds herself bonded to him after attempting to fortify an enchantment. Lucien, motivated by his desire to protect his sister Eléa, becomes entangled in the affairs of the Petridi sisters. This encounter sets off a chain of events that keeps readers engaged and on the edge of their seats.
The captivating elements of this book go beyond just character development. The world-building and the magic system are skillfully crafted. I found myself eagerly turning the pages, immersed in the story. Each character stands out with unique personalities, motivations, and fears. Even the side characters are well fleshed out, adding depth to the narrative.
The Romance That Builds Delightfully
The slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, and forbidden relationship between Lucien and Calliope adds an extra layer of intrigue. It was such a pleasure to read how their relationship unfolded. They complement each other's strengths and weaknesses beautifully. The slow build-up makes the moments of connection meaningful and exciting. The spice in their relationship is well worth the wait!
The Enchantment of Grim
One of my favorite aspects of the book was Grim, the family grimoire. It reminded me of Benny from Ella Enchanted, albeit without the face. Magical books always hold a special place in my heart. Grim is not just a magical book; it is a character in its own right. Its presence enhances the overall enchanting atmosphere of the story.
An Engaging Plot
The plot of Spells, Strings, and Forgotten Things is engaging and flows at an enjoyable pace. The layers of complexity woven throughout the story keep the readers invested in the characters' journeys. There is constant intrigue, making it hard to put the book down. As Calliope navigates the challenges of her magic, the stakes continue to rise, leading to a thrilling conclusion.
Overall, I adored these characters. Each sister has her own struggles, hopes, and dreams. Their individual arcs and collective journey are beautifully crafted. I highly recommend this book to lovers of fantasy and romantasy. It is a delightful escape into a world filled with magic, sisterhood, and romance.
Looking Ahead to Book Two
As I reached the end of this enchanting tale, I felt a longing to dive into more of Eléa's story in book two. With so many threads left to explore, I am excited to see what lies ahead for the Petridi sisters and Lucien. This is a series that I believe will only grow richer with each installment.
Thank you to NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to see how Breanne Randall expands this captivating universe.
